Academy for Global Engagement

As our name so implies, here at The Center for Global Connections our goal is to build a growing cohort of faculty members who will participate in global activities and view their scholarship through a global lens. The greatest example of us working toward that goal is our recent Academy for Global Engagement initiative.

In 2013, after a series of high-level discussions, the Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, International Studies and Programs, the College of Engineering, and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources teamed up to create an innovative program designed to support early- and mid-career, tenure track faculty in their quest to become future faculty leaders and models for their peers in order to inspire a broad range of faculty efforts to pursue a robust, faculty-based global strategy.

Most recently we held the Academy for Global Engagement Campus Convening in an effort to broaden our faculty minds to the international opportunities that are available. This year we proudly hosted distinguished Washington based program officers from US Government agencies, foundations and industry partners who advised our Academy for Global Engagement Fellows on how best to engage with them in developing international research efforts, generated candid and introspective discussion of globalization and its implications for individual Fellows and our stakeholder community. We also familiarized the Fellows with campus and other local resources to support their research across disciplinary boundaries, and gave them a perspective changing capstone experience in a global research setting.

Our hope is that we can accomplish these goals and more year after year. If this year is any indication of how the program will run we are on our way to great success. We are so thankful for all who participated and look forward to continuing our work together!
